Making Homemade Liqueurs

Italian Angelica Liqueur


3 cups vodka
1 tablespoon crushed angelica root
1 3-inch cinnamon stick
1 whole clove
1/8 teaspoon ground nutmeg
1/8 teaspoon ground mace
2 cups sugar
1 cup water

Combine vodka, angelica root, cinnamon stick, clove, nutmeg, and mace in a jar. Cover tightly and let steep for 1 week in a cool, dark place. When steeping is complete, stain and filter liquid.

Combine sugar and water in a heavy saucepan. Bring to a boil over medium heat. Resuce haeat and simmer until sugare has completely dissolved, about 3 minutes. Remove from heat and let cool to room temperature.

Combine sugare syrup with the filtered vodka mixture. Pour into bottles and cap tightly. Let age at least 1 month before serving.
